Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's) |

Does Good Health Have To Be A Mystery? Ever Wonder Why Heart Disease Became The Number One Killer Of People Over Forty-Five Today? In answering this question, research has been pointing to the diet for over thirty years. Everyone I know, myself included, didn't understand all the pieces of this puzzle. Having moderately high blood pressure and wanting to bring it down, I've gone through fat-free diets; high carbo diets; high protein diets; eat right for your type diets; and crazy combinations of all the above. None of them worked as well as the diet I am using today (as are most of my clients). What I've learned is this: only healthy cells can make a healthy body. How can a person achieve this? By restricting the diet to 90% healthy foods (I have binge days where I eat anything). Here is what has worked for me. Whole foods such as Chia Seeds. Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's), proper food combining (this includes saturated fats, i.e. coconut oil), and plenty of clean (distilled) water. In my experimentation, each of these nutrients made some difference. When I was able to develop a balanced diet for myself, the results were dramatically better. I now enjoy much quicker healing from whatever is going around. Have I had to made significant changes in my diet? Yes, especially removing trans-fatty acids. Removing foods containing trans-fatty acids (hydrogenated, partially-hydrogenated refined oils) has been difficult. They are found in most processed foods (even so-called "health foods"). Results; the cost of my eating is down; I'm back to eating some meat (fish or fowl) on occasion; my blood pressure is down; my endurance is up. Life is fun for me! |

View of a cell containing trans-fatty acids.
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a cut-away view of a cell wall. It's made up of "cis" shaped essential fatty-acids. It's solid, yet flexible. The cell wall depends on the "cis" shaped fatty-acids for its formation. Because of their unique shape, these fatty acids are able to form an interlocking wall around the nucleus of the cell. This affords the cell wall the strength and flexibility it needs to take on any shape, to fit into any place in the body, to breath (take in oxygen), to provide energy, and ward off invaders. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Here is a brief description of them and how they are formed. When Corn oil, Peanut oil, Canola oil, Safflower oil, Sunflower oil, Sesame oil, or any lipid (fat) containing omega-3 and/or omega-6 oils is heated above 33ºC/92ºF, the natural molecular shape of the fatty-acid changes from a "cis" form (horseshoe or curved shaped) to a straight form. The body may continue to use these fatty acids even though they are not true "cis" forms in the cell wall. Results: There may be microscopic holes in the cell wall that may allow pathogens to enter the cell. It is also possible that this condition can lead to cellular inflexibility, which would inhibit the cells ability to breath properly. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Trans-fatty acids are formed when certain oils are exposed to heat (see explanation above). When excessive amounts of these trans-fatty acids are in the diet, they also take their place in the cell wall. Since they are straight, they are unable to inter-lock with other fatty-acids leaving the cell wall vulnerable to invasion and disease. The cell wall actually has microscopic holes that allow pathogens entry into the cell. Research is pointing to the fact that an increase in trans fatty acids in the diet is a possible link to the high incidence of heart disease in our country. Consider that we have eighty to ninety billion cells in our body. Ponder the fact that their health determines our health. It's easy to see why providing essential amino-acids via whole, raw, organic AFA Algae, essential fatty acids from organic Chia Seeds, and clean water are such important parts of a balanced diet. How much omega-3 oil is in Chia Seeds? Chia seeds are higher in alpha - linolenic acid (omega-3) than flax seeds (Compsition of Chia Seed and Flas Seed pdf. file) or any other grain. They contain about 30% lipids (fats). Of that, 60-63% is linolenic acid. Also remember this is a natural source of omega-3. By ingesting the food in a whole form, there is no processing to recover the oil (you never have to be concerned with ingesting rancid oil when you are using fresh, organic Chia Seeds) They also contain vitamin A, B, C, and E, plus Boron (plus, about five times the calcium in whole milk), Iron, Magnesium, Niacin, Phosphorus, and Potassium. Chia seeds contain all the essential amino acids making them a complete protein (20-25%). There is no question Chia seeds can play an important role in health and healing. New research is bringing some serious questions to bear on this practice.
